So, in Megaman 3

W-Top Man is gay, and that is why Hard Man's tough fist of metalworking manly toughness kills him quicker than any other weapon kills any other boss?
W-Did it really take me two decades to figure this out? Did everyone else realize this long ago?
W-And is Top Man a reference to top/bottom?
W-Or is "Hard Man" and his fisting another thinly veiled reference?

I hate articles like this

posted by (W-) on 2007-05-16 23:24:57 [#949]
tkurcwhy?

W-I am not a high-maintenance pierced hipster.

tkurcneither am I. but many our age are
tkurcyou also don't live at home

W-Everyone lives at home. Your home is where you live. Using the word "home" to mean "with your parents" is inane.

tkurcoops, I meant with your parents.
tkurcI really don't know anyone who is that dependent on their parents

W-Quality journalism here: "it's a miracle that Gen Yers can do anything on their own"

tkurcyou choose one sentence? the entire artice is quality!!!

W-I would like to know any other group in society that an editor would find it acceptable to publish that sentence about.
W-"Its a miracle them negroes can do anything on their own."
W-Hate!

tkurcwhen hateful things are said about pasty annoying people, its a different ballgame. no one cares.

W-Dammit, I got to get me some breasts.
W-People pay attention to those.

tkurc"Its a miracle warren can get breasts on his own"

W-The last half page (5 paragraphs) are about awesome and quirky the author of the article is.
W-Hate!!!!

tkurcseems the bar is pretty low for genY

Hey, when you read Fark, do you read it from the top-down or the bottom-up?

tkurctop down

W-I go top-down, despite being chronologically backwards

tkurcas do I. making some of the follow-ups confusing....

W-I find myself frequently assuming something is a refence to an article I haven't come to yet, only to discover it doesn't exist

Delayed Viewing of TV Shows via DVRs Impacting Ad Negotiations

posted by (W-) on 2007-05-14 20:54:50 [#945]
W-As I previously predicted
W-Podrazik points out that people are much more likely to watch certain shows later using a DVR than during the live telecast. "The best examples would be 'Lost' and 'The Office.'

tkurcso nerds have tivos

W-The time is coming when ratings for "Lost," for example, will tell advertisers how the show performed in its original Wednesday time slot; how it did among viewers who watched it via DVR days later; how much it was watched at ABC.com; and how well it did as an iTunes download, Podrazik says.

Mario64, with the lighting and coloring of modern games

posted by (W-) on 2007-05-12 15:43:00 [#942]
W-

tkurcyes, this woiuld be intriguing
tkurcI still think the controls were kind of sucky in that game. mario sunshine was better

W-I hated trying to optimally control the waterpack while doing all the other things.

tkurcwhat is a better 3d platformer?

W-(Unfortunately, the image in the first entry doesn't seem to be showing up)

tkurceeeets a meeeee... mario!

W-Super Mario Sunshine's "dungeons" were the good stuff, no doubt. The skill/challenge levels.

tkurcgod of war is the only 3d platformer I can think of where I didn't have to dick with the camera

W-I think both Morrowind and Oblivion could have been turned into extremely good 3D platformers.

tkurcI guess RE4 was pretty good with that too

W-How is RE4 a platformer?

tkurchow would you classify it?

W-Its a first person shooter, from over the shoulder. There are no jumping elements that one associates with a platformer.

tkurcfair enough. well, god of war definitely would fit the bill

W-Quake 3 platforming deserves mention

[H] Enthusiast - XP vs. Vista - A Tale of Framerates

posted by (W-) on 2007-05-07 03:20:25 [#938]
W-
W-Sad, since the DirectX 10 overhead improvements were supposed to offer a 10%-15% advantage on everything
W-Yeah, and that graphic kinda busted outside of the Pants fixed-width content column

tkurcyou asked for fixed width, you got it

W-Not complaining, just noting that my flawed post.

tkurcis it just bad drivers?
tkurcor does DX10 have better graphics?

W-This recent article provides good information and performance from newer drivers
W-Vista and DX10 are both still lame.

tkurcI have been using vista for quite a while with no problems. although, system shock 2 required a lot of time when I hit ESC to get to the menu

W-In theory, DX10 reduces the overhead required for rendering many objects, this increasing performance or allowing more objects for the same performance. It dosen't really increase image quality or add render effects, but it does allow more complex scenes for the same performance.
W-Yes, but you don't have a DX10 video card.

tkurcI probably don't even have a darn DX9 card

Foibaunless the dorm students were whales

W-If he was using a spear, it might be forgiveable, but with nunchuks you cannot "Whale"

Foibanot very well, anyway

W-It would take a vast many ninjas with great strength and endless stamina to beat a whale to death with nunchuks

FoibaeI'm right on schedule

W-Does that phenomenon ever happen to you? It just isn't affecting you right now.

FoibaeYeah, it happens all the time.

W-I asked five people at work today and we all felt the same way
W-And sometimes in past when this has happened, I would find other people would be sharing the experience as well
W-Despite being the skeptic I am, some part of me likes entertaining the idea its a byproduct of a Dark City-like phenomenon

FoibaeI'm sure I'd be more likely to share that perception if I were also working with you.

W-True, hence my little survey here

New Fark Sucks

posted by (W-) on 2007-04-25 21:22:05 [#932]
W-Fixed column width? Fucking shit, I usually stretch it out so that every headline fits on a single line
W-They did the same sort of shitty new-age Web 2.0 bullshit layout that SomethingAwful did
W-That mouseover effect pisses me off too.

tkurcyes. I am able to click with precision
tkurcI need not the crutch of hovering text clickability
tkurcnor the crutch of 1/2 my screen being whitespace

W-I have 1920 horizontal pixels, and they're limiting it to, what, less than 700 pixels?

tkurcI think its like 480
tkurcwidth:665px;

W-But the actual headline has to fit in much less than that... 400 indeed.

tkurc(i read their stylesheet)
tkurcthe width of the headline is 443 pixes
tkurc665 - 120 - 38 - 64

Foibaegod, you guys are nerds

tkurcer, less than that... stupid cellpadding too
tkurclisten, warren is now using about 1/5 of his monitor width. that is enough to make anyone a raging nerd

W-On the plus side, the horrible animated GIF Fark TV ads (unblockable since they are sourced the same as all other page images)
W-They seem to be gone

Foibaemaybe they're just upgrading them so they fit in the rest of the page

tkurcI could probably make a greasemonkey script to widen it. but that would take effort
tkurcand get rid of that damn mouseover crap

W-Would rather use a mobile browser version of Fark than this, but that doesn't seem to be available

tkurcI'm working on the greasemonkey as we speak

W-Foiba found the mobile version

Question: How much money should a man carry around with him?

posted by (W-) on 2007-04-23 20:10:12 [#929]
W-In cash, say after your average ATM visit

FoibaI usually pull out $50 when I deposit a check

W-And do you deposit checks with roughly the same frequency you spend $50 cash?
W-I haven't deposited a check in like 3.5 years

Foibayeah, $50 a month in cash usually does it. Most of my purchases are on the debit card.

W-I also don't use cash very frequently, but I pull $200 out of the ATM when I go
W-Seems like in the movies, dudes always have an incredible amount of cash on them

tkurcI probably only average carrying $20

W-I might hypothesize that married men typically carry less cash

tkurcI just prefer electronic methods

W-Well obviously, but that is a seperate issue

tkurcindeed

W-Prior to this question, did you think of yourself as carrying an average amount?

tkurcno. I definitely carry below average
tkurcunless children are included
tkurcand even then.

W-The question is about men.

tkurcthat was supposed to be a joke.

Foibayeah, dudes in movies are always able to drop a couple hundred in cash for any reason.

W-Yeah, seems like $1000 is the average movie-dude cash on hand.

W-And now I'm on Galactic Civilization II.

W-If someone referred to you as a "cracker-jack engineer", how would you take that?

tkurcif my name was jack, I would be offended

W-Are you aware of any intrepretation of calling something a "cracker-jack" version being a good thing?

tkurccracker jacks have lots of ingredients...
tkurcengineering them is probably difficult
tkurccracker jacks are a delicious consistent food product. a miracle of modern science

W-My Tony-clone friend referred someone to me and told them I was one of the cracker-jack engineers, when he probably meant to say "crack team of engineers"

tkurcI'd certainly be proud to engineer cracker jacks

W-When confronted with this, he said, "but I like cracker jacks! and the toys! I thought it was a compliment!"
